On Easter, we had this tradition where an old man down the road would paint little ‘bunny’ prints along the sidewalk, as well as up to the door of every house where a child lives…and he’s done this every year, without fail, since before I was born.
Over the summer, that old man passed away, so no one in their right mind expected to see the tracks this year. However, when I woke up- there they were!
Turns out that his eighteen year old grandson (who happens to be known as the badass of our school) got up at three this morning and spent four hours- by himself -painting the prints; just to make sure that the neighborhood kids wouldn’t be disappointed.
My faith in our generation = restored.
Marry him.
In November of 1970, forty people were photographed at the exact instant after the photographer said, “You have a beautiful face.”
This is an elderly man who lives in my town. His wife died back in 2008. And every single day since then he has visited her at the graveyard. No matter if it is raining, thunder storming, snowing or sunny, he brings a lawn chair with him and flowers and sits down by her grave for multiple hours of the day. 365 days a year you can find him out there. It would mean the world to me if everyone could get his story out there, to let people know, true love does exist and last.
Badass Dad of the Day: Nils Pickert’s 5-year-old son likes to wear dresses and skirts — so in a show of solidarity, Pickert started wearing them, too:
Yes, I am one of those fathers who are trying to raise his children with gender equality. I’m not one of those pseudo-intellectual daddies that rambles on about studying gender justice, and then, as soon as the child is born, falls back into the comfortable and clichéd gender roles: he realizing himself through work, she taking care of the rest.People in their south German town of 5,000 wonder his effort to be a role model is sensible or silly.
“Neither,” Pickert says. And as it turns out, long skirts with elastic bands fit him quite well.

An old man walked across the beach until he came across a young boy throwing something into the breaking waves. Upon closer inspection, the old man could see that the boy was tossing stranded starfish from the sandy beach, back into the ocean.
“What are you doing, young man?” He asked.
“If the starfish are still on the beach when the sun rises, they will die,” the boy answered.
“That is ridiculous. There are thousands of miles of beach and millions of starfish. It doesn’t matter how many you throw in; you can’t make a difference.”“It matters to this one,” the boy said as he threw another starfish into the waves. “And it matters to this one.”
Hi, I’m Dirk and this is a picture of me I took a few months back for a Tumblr called “Who Needs Feminism” (whoneedsfeminism.tumbrl.com) which set out to make the point that feminism was for everyone, which is something I believe, so I took this picture and submitted it. Of the 150 notes it got a handful came from women who felt that this statement contributed to the problem of gender inequality and that I wasn’t helping anyone by expressing it. At the time I made note of these complaints when I reposted the picture on my own tumblr, but did nothing more than say “Apparently there is some controversy in the notes about whether or not it’s legitimate for me to actually need feminism for this reason.”
Now that this image has found its way onto Facebook and attracted more attention that I’d ever expected it would, I feel I should provide a footnote to the point I was trying to make.
I believe that everyone will better off in a just society. Speaking as someone who enjoys virtually every privilege our society can offer, I still believe that I will benefit personally from an end to patriarchy, racism, poverty, homophobia, and every other form of injustice. Even though I am granted broad privileges by the injustice in our society, I don’t believe that I lose anything by giving them up for the sake of equality, but I believe that I would gain the world in return.
Injustice and inequity are alienating forces to me personally. The advantages they offer me pale in comparison to the barriers they place between me and people I Love. Feminism is not something I believe in because I’m a “nice guy” who feels like saying I’m a feminist is some kind of charitable act. I actually feel deeply fucked up when a woman walking alone at night gives me a fearful glance or when capable women turn down opportunities because they feel they won’t be taken seriously. Undoing this imbalance not only liberates women from their oppression, but also liberates men from their privilege… and we need liberation as much as anyone, perhaps more because it’s so hard for us to see it.

Last year I tied a disposable camera to a fence and left a little sign telling people to take pictures. This is part 1 of the results.

Can a sister get a ‘HELL FUCKIN YEAH!’ For my buddy Scott, who protected a woman from her abusive ex! Scott was in the hospital for 8 days! The Asshat attacked him with a box cutter. Nose cut 3/4” back (6 stitches), stabbed in the arm, 16” slash across his chest went through to his left lung puncturing it (30 staples)… He is much better now, but he has a lot of nerve damage across his chest and forearm where he was stabbed. He’s got a long way to go. Let’s see how many reblogs/RTs we can get for this BAMF!
